Grand Brother Michael Kuch, Gamma Alpha #114 has eulogized Brother Kevin Skeffington, Gamma Alpha #111:
Brother Kevin “Skeff” Skeffington (Gamma Alpha #111) passed on September 15, 2026.
He is now at Peace for Eternity in Nirvana.
To those who knew “Skeff”, time stopped for a moment. And then for many more moments.
Moments to reflect. To remember. To honor. To cherish.
An extraordinary man. An uncommon man. At times, a misunderstood, complex man.
Nothing about Kevin suggested he was average or ordinary or typical.
He lived passionately, and unapologetically. He lived with clarity and purpose, and a life rich and abundant.
While his demeanor could seem, at times, unfiltered, careless, and unpredictable, those qualities were not flaws to be hidden. They were part of the splendid complexity that made Kevin who he was.
To truly love Kevin was to accept all of Kevin.
One had to understand his unwavering heart, his hidden generosity, and his deep love for people and animals.
Kevin gave everything to everything. He consumed life in big, unchewable chunks. Whatever the task, the project, the adventure, or the cause, he threw himself into it completely. Yet somehow, he always managed to leave a little something behind for later, another story, another laugh, another memory waiting to be made.
Self-deprecation was Kevin’s Superpower. One of many. He could laugh at himself faster than anyone else could. And if Kevin liked you, he loved you. There were no nuances. No in-betweens. If he teased you relentlessly, then congratulations, because that was his way of saying, “You’re okay by me.”
Kevin was intense, stubborn, and unwavering once he committed to something. He stood his ground. He believed what he believed. And he was never afraid to say exactly what was on his mind.
Kevin didn’t negotiate with nonsense. He had little patience for dishonest people, fake intentions, or those who lacked sincerity. He could be rough around the edges, proud, stubborn, and uncompromising.
Equal parts Tarzan and Sledgehammer … and Marshmallow on the insides.
But beneath that tough exterior was authenticity. And Truth. Truth First and Always.
What you saw was what you got. And, if you didn’t like it, then best you got out of the way.
He never pretended to be someone he wasn’t.
In a world that often rewards pretense, Kevin chose honesty.
In a world that encourages people to blend in, Kevin stood apart.
And because of that, we trusted him.
We believed him.
We knew exactly where we stood with him.
Most importantly, Kevin loved deeply.
His greatest pride and greatest joy were his family. The love he carried for them was evident in everything he did. Though many of us knew different versions of Kevin – the friend, the brother, the colleague, the fraternity member, the storyteller, the instigator, the prankster, the protector – it was his role as a loving Husband and Father where his heart shined brightest.
As a Fraternity Brother of Gamma Alpha Chapter of Gamma Delta Psi, I was inducted three Roll positions after Kevin. He wasn’t an easy act to follow. I was 15 years-old, and he scared the heck out of me then. I think he took a shine to me though he’d never admit it. Just his special way of keeping humility in the friendship. Or, perhaps, he figured I was just enough like him that I could be in some way, an accomplice to whatever mischief he was conjuring. He wasn’t wrong.
Forty-five years on, Kevin invited Brothers Troy Adams, James DeWitt and me to his beautiful vacation home in the Dominican Republic for the second consecutive year. The lot of us were still splitting our sides laughing at the previous year’s charades when planning the trip for this November. A trip planned to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Gamma Alpha.
Earlier this summer, Kevin (and his wife Jane) opened their home to about 20 Brothers for a BBQ and Pool Party. Their home is a sanctuary for rescue animals and a retreat where everyone can be themselves, feel welcomed and appreciated.
To honor Kevin, Troy, James and me will continue that journey to the Caribbean, retrace our route to some of the places we visited last year, and to create new memories of “Memories of Kevin.” He will be with us in spirit. In our hearts. In our laughs. In our joy. We’ll miss him every moment …
We mourn the loss of a man who took up space in our lives in a way few people ever do.
The truth is men like Kevin don’t pass quietly through this world.
They leave marks.
They leave stories.
They leave lessons.
They leave laughter echoing in rooms long after they’ve gone.
And while our hearts are broken by his absence, they are also full because we had the privilege of knowing him.
For every laugh he gave us.
For every challenge he put before us.
For every memory he created.
For every life he touched.
Thank you, Skeff. Brother, our Brother.
Thank you for being unapologetically yourself.
Thank you for your loyalty.
Thank you for your Brotherhood.
Thank you for the stories we will tell for years to come.
Though you are gone far too soon, the impact of your life remains.
We will remember you.
We will celebrate you.
We will miss you.
And we will carry you with us always.
Rest easy, Brother.
You earned it, Kahuna.
Keep The Crescent warm and shining brightly in Nirvana. Until then … Once A Brother, Always A Brother.
