Brother Darrell Sears, Beta Psi #28 was very close to Brother Eddie and comments:

Charles Edward “Eddie” Cogle went to the lord leaving many hearts broken as he has touch so many throughout his life. Eddie was from Colonial Heights Virginia, was a charter member of Beta Psi Chapter in Prince George Virginia. As many know, Eddie was a real character throughout his life, trying his best to have a blast in whatever he did. Eddie was an excellent sound engineer for many bands, getting his start as a Rodie for Wild Sounds Unlimited around 1967/68 ish. Eddie always loved music, was one of the best dancers you had even seen. Everywhere Eddie went all the girls wanted to dance with the dancing machine, Eddie Cogle.
Eddie was an extremely accomplished sound engineer for bands such as Sandcastle, Delbert Delbert McClinton, Bill Deals Rondels, Steve Basset, Blackwater Band, Jim Quick’s Coastline Band, and his last band was the Band Of Oz. Eddie had been inducted into the Carolina Beach Music Awards and nominated many times over.

Many of us have very fond memories of Eddie, we were best friends for many years. In the summer months, we would go to Virginia Beach and almost live in the Peppermint Beach Club. There Eddie showed me the art of making false identification cards so I could sneak in the mint while still underage. We attended conventions together, one I remember most was one in Toronto Canada, I believe Bob Guthrie was the International President and Brother Barry Yeates vice president, we somehow ended up at a girls high school sorority convention, we got on an elevator with wall to wall girls, Eddie cut a loud fart and blamed it on me, I almost died from embarrassment. Well that was just Eddie being himself.

Later in years as we got older, Eddie and myself renewed our brotherhood and it was like we never missed a second other than our conversations went from talking about women to aches and pains. I would see Eddie down in Yorktown VA doing his sound magic, or at Myrtle Beach night life, and sometimes meeting for breakfast or lunch off Interstate 95 in Dunn NC Cracker Barrel, talking on the phone to each other, it was the best just hearing each others voices.

A few years ago Eddie had to have surgery for stomach ulcers, the first surgery failed and he had to be medavacted to Fayetteville NC for emergency surgery where he stayed in intensive care for weeks. His recovery was very slow, to this day, Im not really not sure if he had recovered fully.

As I understand, Eddie passed away at his home in Dunn NC of natural causes. I so wish we could just have met one more time for our continuing brotherhood , wouldn’t matter if it was for breakfast or lunch, just spending time together shooting the shit, talking old times, and yes, aches and pains. Rest in Peace my Brother Eddie !

Brother Parker Simmons (Gamma Zeta #6C & Beta Tau #70) and Brother Eddie’s friendship predates High School and Gamma Delta Psi. Here’s his memories of Eddie:

Eddie and I go back a long time- even before the fraternity. As his mother (Lula) and my mother were very close friends. Sometimes life throws you a curveball, as both of my parents were deceased by 1969. By that time, we were both fraternity brothers and he had the famous ‘69 green, Road Runner, which he was self-proclaimed king-of-the-road. Eddie moved into my home, where I live today, after the death of my parents. Eddie was a great guy- light on his feet, could dance like he weighed 100lbs, and always had some crazy antics going on. I can remember one time we drove the green Road Runner to Canada for a Northern Rally. When we came back and crossed over into the U.S., Eddie told me to drive, as I think he may have been suffering from self induced sickness. The crazy part is, I didn’t have a driver’s license. I can remember Route 15 through Pennsylvania was so foggy I couldn’t see the end of the car. I drove all the way back to Petersburg and I remember I attended school the next day. As the old saying goes, if you’re going to be dumb, you got to be tough. As we got older, life took us in different directions but we always stayed somewhat in touch. Rest in peace, brother.

As there is no obituary for Brother Eddie, we invite anyone who would like to say a few words about him to leave it in the comments below.
