About Us
North America’s oldest surviving High School Fraternity
Gamma Delta Psi Fraternity International may be the oldest high school based fraternal organization still in existence. We strive to be an important, positive influence in a young man’s life. In cooperation with the influences of school, family, faith and other activities such as sports or music, Gamma Delta Psi assists in preparing our members for their future in career and life.
Gamma Delta Psi is a Greek letter Fraternal organization based at the High School Scholastic level. While it is true that most Fraternities today are in Colleges and Universities, Fraternities were once very common in High Schools. Gamma Delta Psi was founded on April 13, 1879 at James Hillhouse High School in New Haven, CT. We were not the first High School Fraternity but we are probably the oldest surviving High School Fraternity. Our Mission Statement below details our purpose.
Gamma Delta Psi Fraternity International is an organization of young men attending high school, from any cultural or ethnic background, who have joined together to provide service and support to their school, their community and each other.
In doing so, we will encourage and develop within our members:
We believe that these attitudes, skills and knowledge will be an asset in their lives now, and into adulthood.
To be successful in life, in a variety of ways and filling many roles, men must develop the necessary attitudes, skills, knowledge and habits as soon as possible. We must realize and embrace the obligations and responsibilities we have to:
Ourselves
Our Family
Our Community
Our Faith
Anti-Discrimination Policy
Gamma Delta Psi Fraternity International is open to all high school aged men, regardless of race, religious beliefs, physical handicaps or social status, who wish to serve their school and community and believe in the values, mission and policies of Gamma Delta Psi.
Gamma Delta Psi has chartered 87 chapters and inducted over 40 000 Brothers in it’s 140 year existence
